SRIC Extras

Because we care that...

THE ‘ENVIRONMENT’ IS WHAT WE BREATHE, EAT, AND DRINK.

Because we remember that at the heart of our work…

PEOPLE MATTER.

Because what we leave behind is what our children will live on…

OUR WORK CONTINUES!

We are asking YOU to support the work of SRIC by:

  • Mailing a check this week
  • Giving a credit card donation online or by phone
  • Contributing to SRIC with a monthly deduction from your account
  • Donating stocks and bonds
  • Writing SRIC into your will or estate plan
  • Making SRIC a beneficiary of your trust
  • Donating to SRIC through the combined federal campaign (Org #7067)

If you’ve received a letter from us asking for your contribution, please donate what and when you can. A small gift of any amount goes a long way in our budget to pay for the increasing costs of keeping our doors open so that we can assist struggling communities. A large gift of more than $100 can make a big difference in how we manage to help protect the health of people and communities throughout the Southwest.

If you’ve already given to SRIC this year, THANK YOU SO MUCH, for your support!

Attention all Post ’71 Uranium Workers

We are a voluntary committee committed to those Post '71 uranium miners, millers, and ore transporters who are suffering due to the affects of uranium exposure.

Our goal is to bring public, political, and legislative attention to the fact that Post '71 people are getting sick and dying at an alarming rate with no compensation from the responsible parties.

We have begun research to discover and disclose the facts; or lack of facts surrounding the controversy of who is responsible for the inadequate safety precautions and procedures that were put into place during the employment of these people.

Our ultimate goal is to get legislation to extend the RECA compensation program to include everyone who worked in the uranium industry up to 1990.

We are currently collecting data and statistics through a voluntary survey that can be downloaded at www.post71exposure.org. We will be using the data to lobby legislation in August in Washington, D.C.

Our lobbying efforts will cover:

  1. Extending RECA compensation to include workers up to 1990.
  2. Increase downwind counties to include parts of New Mexico and Colorado.
  3. Increase compensation for on-site participants from $50,000 to $150,000.

For more information on our committee and our efforts, go to www.post71exposure.org, or contact Liz Lucero at (505) 287-8759, or Linda Evers at (505) 287-2304.

"I saw many Navajo people living in mining camps, in temporary shelters, small trailers, even tents. I can still remember our mothers would have those baby formulas, those powders, and the only good drinking water they could find was coming from the mines. Fathers would bring these jugs back home for cooking purposes or to mix with baby formulas."
