MISSION: Southwest Research and Information Center (SRIC) exists to provide timely, accurate information to the public on matters that affect the environment, human health, and communities in order to protect natural resources, promote citizen participation, and ensure environmental and social justice now and for future generations.
For twenty-five years The Workbook has been integral to SRIC's mission to provide citizens with information that both aids and inspires them to work for social change. Unfortunately, due to funding constraints, declining subscriptions, and retirement of our long-time editor Kathy Cone, the Spring 2000 issue of The Workbook was its last.

This was a difficult decision for everyone at SRIC; we did not take this action lightly. The Workbook has been a vital part of our life here at SRIC. Simultaneously, we understand that we need to change if the organization is to move forward. With this in mind, Voices from the Earth was born. With this new publication, we hope to retain much of the flavor and content of The Workbook, with a new emphasis on the people — their work in their communities, how they work to empower their communities, their voices.

The Workbook readers will also be happy to know that Voices from the Earth will continue to offer book reviews, resource guides and news features on topics of national and regional interest.

We will continue to maintain this site for past readers of The Workbook to peruse some of the reviews, as well as the feature excerpts from some of the past issues. If you would like to receive some of the past issues of The Workbook, please feel free to contact us at Info@sric.org, 505-262-1862, or contact us through regular mail at SRIC, PO Box 4524, Albuquerque, NM 87106.

Thanks to all of you for your many years of support!
