Runner Up in Project Censored's Top 25 Censored Stories

Southwest Research and Information Center is pleased to announce that three articles in Voices from the Earth, Fall 2003, were Censored 2005 Runners-Up. Congratulations to the following authors:

Ruben Nunez, Olga Pedroza, and Kitty Richards - "Farm Workers: Are They Really Protected in the Fields?"
Colin King - "Bioterror at Home: Biological Research-A Short Step to Weapon's Production"
Amy Williams - "Bombing New Mexico: Nuclear Bomb Facility Proposed"

Articles considered for publication in Censored go through a grueling process, starting as part of a collection of 800 articles, which are then culled down to 200, cut again to 125, and cut once more to become part of the last 60 articles, from which the Top 25 are chosen. We consider it an honor that these authors and their stories were considered important enough to make it to the final rounds. We firmly believe that it is important for these and other stories to be heard.

Censored 2005 is a publication of Project Censored, a non-profit project within the Sonoma State University Foundation. Part of their mission statement states: "…Project Censored serves as a national media ombudsman by identifying and researching important news stories that are underreported, ignored, misrepresented, or censored in the United States."

SRIC Welcomes New Board Member

SRIC would like to welcome Lucy Boulanger, M.D. as the newest member of our Board of Directors. Lucy has been a supporter of the Center for many years. She is a doctor at the Crownpoint Indian Hospital and has been actively involved with the efforts to stop the proposed uranium in situ leach mining in Crownpoint and Church Rock, New Mexico. In addition to her medical practice, Lucy is involved in programs to promote economic development through renewable energy technologies in New Mexico.
