Supporting SRIC
"As we see all around us, racism and racial discrimination continue unabated. Although we refer to our world as a global village, it is a world sadly lacking in the sense of closeness towards neighbour and community which the word village implies. In each region, and within all countries, there are problems stemming from either a lack of respect for, or lack of acceptance of, the inherent dignity and equality of all human beings. Our world is witness to serious ethnic conflicts; to discrimination against minorities, indigenous peoples and migrants workers; the accusation of institutionalized racism in police forces; harsh immigration and asylum policies; hate sites on the Internet and youth groups promoting intolerance and xenophobia." Mary Robinson, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights 24 March 1999

Supporting SRIC
SRIC INTERN This past summer we had the good fortune of having Maria Aliza Laghab (Zoya) as an intern. She helped us in different ways, and put up with our many idiosyncrasies. Zoya is a Politics major at University of California in Santa Cruz, and assisted us with Voices from the Earth, plus other projects as necessary. She contributed two reviews, which we are printing in this issue of Voices. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors, and a big THANKS for all her help.
Ways of Supporting SRIC With ever increasing threats to human health and the environment, our work is needed more than ever. There are many different ways you can support SRIC's important work. For example, you can:
- Remember us during our end-of-year appeal. Your support is needed.
- You can make a monthly donation. Just $10 a month, adds up to $120 a year to help us continue our much needed work.
- Give a special gift to those you love. A tax-deductible gift to SRIC gives special meaning to the holidays. SRIC will send a card to your gift recipient notifying them of this special way of honoring them while tending to the needs of the earth. Or we can send the card to you, so you can add a special sentiment inside.
- If your company has a matching gift program, determine if your gift to SRIC can be matched by a gift from your employer.
- Planned Giving, a bequest to SRIC in your will helps us continue our work.
- A non-monetary (but still tax-deductible) donation of a gently used Pentium or higher computer, a working ink jet or laser printer, or other office supplies (call us for details).
These are just a few of the ways you can support SRIC's work to protect people's health and the environment. For further information, contact Don or Annette at 505-262-1862.
